I don’t usually post petitions but as South Parketeers it’s something of a duty of ours to defend freedom of speech, a fundamental concept to the show. We need to show the terrorists that we won’t be intimidated by threats of violence and we will stand by an incredibly important principal our nations were all founded upon. Please help to win this battle by showing your support for the release of the artist’s original vision of this almost mythical episode.Apparently someone started a petition to get Comedy Central to reveal uncensored versions of the Muhammad episodes of South Park. I have a feeling it might not work, but I signed anyway. Here’s the description from the petition page:
It has now been several years since South Park aired the “controversial” episodes “200” and “201”. They decided that they were going to show the prophet muhammed and instead, were treated to a series of long and unending bleeps that completely inhibits viewing of the episode. Comedy Central and its parent company Viacom have allowed “South Park” to make fun of every other religion, political position, and influential individual on the planet but, suddenly, Muhammed is something we can’t touch or talk about because of a few individuals whothreatened violence.
This is not just an issue about seeing a cartoon. America is about free speech and standing behind those who exercise that speech whether you agree with it or not. Comedy Central didn’t just show their cowardice with censoring episodes 200 and 201; they allowed threats to commit violent acts to stop the exact type of thing South Park has done to every single group on the planet and thus reinforced the idea that if you threaten violence and may potentially commit violence than you can get your way. We have to stop this type of behavior immediately or possibly encourage more of the same behavior from a larger number of groups and orginizations. Is this really what we want? Sign this petition to further impress upon Viacom and Comedy Central that this is an inexcusable limitation of the inalienable freedom of speech.
So for any South Park watchers out there who are interested, go ahead and sign your vote!
OOC: Actually there are 15 states and DC where bestiality isn’t explicitly illegal but in evey case in which a person has been found to be engaging in these acts they’ve been prosecuted under animal cruelty charges. Lying to promote a good cause just makes you and the other people supporting it are noncredible. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.
Watching most TV shows: I predict exactly what’s about to happen and all is expected. Watching South Park: I think I know what’s about to happen but I’m not sure if they can or would put that on TV.
